‘pure' > color tests

these works originated from a very simply studio need, that of knowing what the color is in a tube of paint and how it looks painted on a page of paper, ie. ‘color test’. this expanded into a deeper study of the nature of paint and its ability to render in certain conditions. the project became:
1. apply paint from a tube or oil stick to a page of paper as uniformily and smooth as possible, with no consideration for the strokes the of the brush (or hand), other than to achieve the task of covering the page in a consistent fashion.
2. underneath this page is a larger sheet of paper, with that the accumulation of paint that goes off the intended page and records a certain amount of ‘pure’ abstraction.
3. these were done in different combinations, from 2, 3 and 4…
4. the result (by-product) of this, upon closer looking is that the residual paint on the larger paper has a certain cognition of abstraction (which has a tendency to manifest as figural (or could be argued that innate in our animal behavior is a trait that involves our ability to perceive energy around us (further: through us) as an energy transference of our unconscious as well as the energy of the environment and consciousness that we exist in.
